The type of substrate used to manufacture a sign will affect its durability, pricing and order lead times.
Zintec is electro-zinc coated steel sheet. This coating protects the sign from corrosion and is likely to last longer than standard steel.
Zintec is our most commonly used street works substrate and is generally used in the industry for frame-riveted temporary traffic signs.
Composite is a compound material made up of multiple constituent parts. It consists of two 0.3mm aluminium faces thermobonded to a solid polyethylene core. Composite is lighter than aluminium, has no scrap value and is 100% recyclable.
For permanent signs, composite comprises of two 0.5mm aluminium faces to give it more strength for longer term applications
It is an excellent material for permanent traffic signs. It is also very versatile and it can be routed.
Historically, permanent traffic signs were predominantly made from aluminium, although this has now changed with the introduction of composite substrates.
Aluminium is very strong and durable as well as corrosion resistant and lightweight.
GRP or polyplate as it's known within the industry, signs have no value for potential thieves. They will not melt down and have no intrinsic value to provide.
They can be refaced many times and will not bend or warp. If dropped they will not damage as easily as Composite or Zintec.
Black plastic is an extremely tough, durable plastic. It has excellent impact resistance and exhibits an extraordinary resistance to fatigue from flexing (almost unbreakable), is impervious to water and has good chemical resistance.
Black plastic is often used for street works signage as well as Chapter 8, cone, and smaller high speed signs.
Corex is a lightweight corrugated plastic sheet designed to offer impact protection and is 100% waterproof. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Foamex is a lightweight foam board with a polyurethane foam core and coated multi-layered paper liners. Suitable for indoor use or short term outdoor use.
