Make a 3-Part Number Plate

This knowledge base article shows you how to Make a 3-Part Number Plate when using a roller jig.

Produce a 3-Part Number Plate by sandwiching printed Clear Film between Oralite wet reflective and an Acrylic Face. Our British Standard certification is for number plates made with this specific plate media combination. So we can guarantee number plates made from them will be road legal, subject to correct use.

Assembling a 3-Part Number plate

We recommend you use a jig and roller to combine our plate components for a professional finish. Then you can use the pins to line up your media accurately. And the rollers will apply equal pressure across the entire width of the media, all at once. Which will help the pieces to bond together.

Place your Printed Film on the Jig

Place your printed film on the jig
To start, place your jig in a well lit, clean and warm work area. Use the pins and place your printed film sheet face up on the jig. Ensure it’s positioned flat and square.

Prepare the Acrylic Face

Fold back part of the adhesive cover
Next, you’ll stick a clear acrylic face to the printed film. So, first fold back a few centimetres of the adhesive cover on an acrylic. Ensure you choose the side with the adhesive coating on it.

Join the Acrylic Face and Film

Join the Acrylic Face to the Film
Now line up the Acrylic face with the adhesive side facing down, towards the Film. Carefully join the two components together at the exposed adhesive. Use the pins to help ensure the sides all match up.

Roll and Bond them Together

Hold the Adhesive Cover and feed it through the Rollers
Slide both parts towards the rollers, with the joined edge nearest. Take and keep hold of the folded adhesive cover on the acrylic. Next, slowly wind the roller arm, so the components are fed through.

By keeping hold of the adhesive cover, it should be removed while the roller bonds the 2 parts together.

Next, Prepare the Wet Reflective

Fold back the adhesive cover on a Wet Reflective sheet
Place your wet reflective sheet face up on the jig. And first fold back a few centimetres of its adhesive cover. Now, ensure it’s positioned flat and square using the pins.

Join the Acrylic and Film to the Wet Reflective

Join the Film and Acrylic on top of the Wet Reflective sheet
Position the Acrylic & Film on top with the film side facing down. Next, carefully join them together at the exposed adhesive edge.

Roll and Bond the 3-Parts Together

Hold the adhesive cover and feed the components through the Rollers
Slide the components towards the rollers, with the joined edge nearest. Take and keep hold of the folded adhesive cover on the wet reflective. Next, slowly wind the roller arm, so the components are fed through. Once again the cover should be pulled off while the parts are bonded together.

Remove Protective Cover

Remove the protective cover from the Acrylic to finish
Finally, remove the other protective cover from the acrylic face. Remember to wait a few minutes after assembly, for the glue to cure before handling or fitting to a vehicle.
