On-Site Number Plates
Motorpoint are the UK’s largest independent car retailer, with thousands of used and nearly new cars. So a well functioning number plate system is a small but vital part of their vehicle preparation service.
By the time they approached us, they had been with their existing supplier for some time. But this had left them with dated equipment that was overly complex and proving costly to run or maintain.
Client Objectives
In short, we were asked to provide a number plate printing solution that was tailored to their business. Where ease of use and low running costs were king.
Finding A Solution
Information Gathering
To start with, we gathered information on their business operation and number plate requirements. For example, how many branches did they have and what volume of plates do they make? And other than running costs, what other issues had been identified?
Once we had these details we could start to tailor a solution that met their needs. But still reduced total budgetary costs over its projected lifetime.
Motorpoint Problems & Answers
First, we looked at their number plate production needs. Ordinarily their cars undergo rigorous testing, repair and valeting on receipt. After that, a new set of Motorpoint branded number plates are then fitted onto each vehicle.
As soon as we discovered this, it became apparent that a Dual Printer Setup would be perfect. Printing front and rear plates at the same time, it will reduce production time. And each branch will get their own branded template.
Next, we considered ease of use. Since our software is already streamlined, we looked at the hardware. Our thermal printers have a simple and lean operation, easy to use. And running costs are low, with just ribbons to buy.
Finally we considered their plate construction. Concerns had been raised about metal plates scratching their cars. Our reflective plates are a lighter product that’s easy to fit. Yet still delivers savings on each component.
The Result
Our Fast & Lean Core Dual Systems Helped Motorpoint Reach Expectations
In the end, Motorpoint choose our Core Dual number plate systems, which allows each location to capitalise on its fast and lean operation. With 2 thermal printers, the Core Dual produces both front and rear plates at the same time, while being easy to use. This way, their sales team could reliably schedule number plates production to fit in around other duties.
Dual on-site systems gave their pre-sales team a quicker turnaround on batches of number plates. Switching to thermal printers also lowered running costs and simplified any maintenance needs. Being lighter with rounded edges, our plates do not scratch bodywork or cut fingers on fixing to vehicles.
Finally, although they already saved money with our number plate components, we arranged a further group discount of over 10%.
