As temperatures drop, it’s not just us that feel the chill – your number plate production can be affected too. So don’t let the cold ruin your number plates, act now.
Don’t Let the Cold Ruin Your Number Plates – Stay Ahead of It
Winter conditions have a direct impact on print quality, adhesive performance & even the longevity of equipment. Part of the standards and regulations specifically focus on the importance of quality. So now is the ideal time to make a quick check of your number plate setup to ensure everything is running smoothly.
Temperature Matters in Number Plate Printing
Most number plate printers, especially thermal transfer and resin-based ribbons, are designed to operate within specific temperature & humidity ranges. When the air gets colder, several issues can arise:
- Ribbon inks may not bond properly to reflective or film components
- Adhesives can become less responsive, leading to poor lamination
- Print heads may struggle to maintain optimal heat, ruining prints
- Condensation forms easily in cold conditions affecting print finish
Even a small drop in ambient temperature can reduce print performance — and ultimately cost your business time and money.
Don’t Forget Your Components & Assembly Area
It’s not just your printer that needs the right conditions. Your plate components also perform best when they’re kept warm, dry & stable. Cold or damp reflective, films & plates can trap moisture and fail to bond correctly. Before printing or assembling, make sure your:
- Component storage area is consistently warm & dry
- Assembly workspace is heated & free from excess humidity
- Components are wiped & used at recommended temperatures
These simple steps alone can significantly reduce defects and reprints.
