A Practical Approach to Sustainable Number Plates
By utilising 90% Recycled ABS, Enviro-Plate takes a practical approach to sustainability that doesn’t disrupt plate production. The recycled backing plate retains its strength and malleability, whilst reducing virgin plastic consumption by approximately 91%. Based on equivalent oblong plates, Enviro-Plate contains just 17.3g of virgin plastic compared to 196.6g in an Acrylic Plate.
Enviro-Plate also benefits from Tennants’ specialist clear film technology. Compared to printed reflective, our clear film is more economical and helps lower the annual costs of plate production. The films gauge and its specialist coating support excellent print quality, durability & print bonding.

Enviro-Plate achieved BSAU 145e certification in 2019, over a year before the standard became law. Its certification was subsequently renewed in 2024, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to quality, compliance and product performance.

Enviro-Plate is manufactured using 90% Recycled ABS, meaning the rest is virgin plastic. By comparison, traditional PMMA Acrylic Plates are made using 100% virgin plastic. For equivalent plate sizes, this results in approximately 91% less virgin plastic being used.
Q: Is Enviro-Plate BSAU 145e compliant?
A: Yes. Enviro-Plate is fully certified to BSAU 145e and is road-legal for use on UK vehicles.
Enviro-Plate was also the first number plate to achieve BSAU 145e certification, receiving approval in November 2019 ahead of the standard becoming mandatory on 1 January 2021.

A: No Enviro-Plate does not suffer from outgassing.
Our Recycled ABS sheeting is treated and coated to increase surface resistance and adhesion. In addition, the specialist adhesive used on Enviro-Plate backings is formulated for plastic surfaces and has non-yellowing properties.
