Operations Manager – Manufacturing

Location: New Basford, Nottingham
Salary: £45k to £50k plus healthcare and bonus

Vacancy Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, a strong leadership background, and a passion for continuous improvement. This role offers a progression path to Operations Director, with increasing responsibility and strategic involvement as performance and leadership capabilities are demonstrated.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Daily Manufacturing Operations: Manage the day-to-day activities of the production floor, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe operations that meet production targets and quality standards.
  • Implement Lean and Six Sigma Methodologies: Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma tools to reduce waste, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve process efficiency and product quality.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Supervise, mentor, and motivate production teams to achieve operational goals. Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage budgets, control operational costs, and ensure optimal use of labour, equipment, and materials.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to quality standards and compliance with industry regulations (e.g., ISO). Oversee quality assurance processes and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Supply Chain, Sales, HR, and Finance to align manufacturing goals with overall business objectives.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyse production data and KPIs to identify trends, forecast operational needs, and make informed decisions to enhance performance and profitability.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in driving process improvements and operational efficiency
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional manufacturing teams
  • Solid understanding of production planning, scheduling, and inventory management
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency in manufacturing software and ERP systems
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, or a related field
  • Lean Six Sigma certification required
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
